Breaking News: 7.1 Magnitude Earthquake Rocks Vanuatu

The U.S. Geological Survey out of Denver, Colorado is reporting that a 7.1 magnitude earthquake struck between Tanna, Vanuatu (83 miles SW), and Tadine, Loyalty Islands, New Caledonia (92 miles NNE). The official location of the epicenter is at 20.229°S, 168.204°E . It struck at Tuesday, May 10, 2011 at 07:55:11 PM UTC at the epicenter.

That puts the episcenter about 1,083 miles ENE of Brisbane, Australia.

There is NOT a Pacific-wide Tsunami threat from this earthquake.
