Breaking News: Devastating 8.9 Earthquake Hits Off the Coast of Japan, Tsunami Follows

Japan mapWow, I am watching some scary images on both my TV and computer screen. An 8.9 (classified as a Great Earthquake) struck off the coast of Japan about 2 hours ago (12:30AM ET) which has been followed by many aftershocks and a tsunami. They have shown horrible footage of the tsunami taking out a highway covered in cars attempting to evacuate, huge fires in many areas, and many, many places just covered in water and destruction.

There have been waves as high as ten feet tall.

Here is a brief list of countries that are now under TSUNAMI WARNINGS for the next few hours;
Hawaii – first wave 2:59 AM local time
Coastal Russia – 8:34 GMT
Guam – 9:09 GMT
Taiwan – 9:30 GMT
Marshall Islands – 10:30 GMT
Indonesia at 10:39 GMT
Papua, New Guinea at 11:24 GMT
Australia 15:28 GMT

That is a short list, anyone in the pacific should move away from the coast if possible.

Aftershocks have now reached 7.0, and one 6.8 just registered with the epicenter in the heart of Tokyo. The initial quake is the 7th strongest earhtquake ever.

Our hearts and prayers go out to everyone in the area, and we hope things don’t get any worse.

Here are some video clips of the devastation, some of them show live footage of both the earthquake and tsunami when it happened. Warning, the footage is disturbing.
