What if you could stop a crime before it happens?
They can!
I really didn’t think I was going to like this show. This is however why I watch almost EVERY new show though. This could turn out to be my favorite new show of the season.
Jim Caviezel stars as John Reese a now down on his luck (by his own choice) former Special Forces member and part of “The Agency”, which I take as meaning the C.I.A.. He is attacked one night while riding on the subway and drinking, well they tried to attack him anyway. He fought of a group of about 6 people with little effort. He was arrested and questioned by Detective Carter (portrayed by Oscar nominated Taraji P. Henson) before being bailed out by a lawyer he had never seen. He takes a ride with those that got him out and is offered an unusual job.
The job is to help his benefactor Finch (Michael Emerson from Lost…yes the one creepy guy) prevent crimes before they happen. It seems after 9/11, Finch built a super-machine for the government that will search for terrorists and prevent another 9/11 from happening. Soon after the machine was put to use Finch realized there were relevant and irrelevant threats found. The machine was adjusted to only find the relevant threats, while the irrelevant threats were deleted at the end of each day. Finch realized the irrelevant were the really important ones and built himself a backdoor into the machine. He now works to prevent bad things from happening to everyday people, and he enlists Reese to help. The problem is, the machine only gives Finch a person’s Social Security number. It doesn’t tell him what is going to happen, whether the person is the victim or perpetrator in the event, or any useful information really. Reese has to do all the surveillance, investigating, and legwork with a small amount of support.
